Thank YOU for making this journey through the cave, lagoon, lighthouse, all the good stuff, SO peaceful and nice and lovely β€οΈ you're one of a kind! π₯°
Love this collab so much, Jen and Mia, this coastline language for our systems is gorgeous. Let's normalize the days when AI βdoesnβt workβ and instead design workspaces that honor the state weβre in. Iβm definitely living in The Dive and The Lighthouse with the tools most of my days but will be interesting to explore other coastlines.
@Phil Powis β€οΈβ‘οΈ we should totally eventually do a collab on something related to βbuilding your brand with AI.β @Colleen Kenny and I built a 3 part learning experience series, and I have a branding cohort starting in July. :)
Awww I am sure it will be a great interview. Nothing is worse than when you have a live scheduled and it does not go to plan. I have been kicked out of the call with my guest still there! haha.
I was sitting under all my lights, camera ready, fully set up for our live, waiting to hear if @Phil Powis β€οΈβ‘οΈ made it out of his building alive.
realized i never came back to this one. yeah - a lighting strip caught fire in a ceiling recess. a bit of a mess but no one was hurt and no major damage.
Such a truly creative and innovative way to use AI as someone with ADHD. Such a great read and so relatable. Sometimes I need someone to reel me in on the days Iβm just bursting with ideas and canβt lock in or focus on one thing - just chasing the dopamine. Canβt wait to implement this in my own workflow and see how it goes..thank you for sharing!!! β¨
Emily - love it. You are in good company (I have ADHD too). I have a live session coming up with @Natalie H. on wanting a job as a professional ideas generator! (her words resonated with like 9000+ other ADHDers) You might enjoy it! Let me know I will send the link.
Also, we would love to hear how this tool works for you!! <3 @Mia Kiraki π
So interesting, this is my first read, and I love the applied aspect of the post. I have set it up....as a researcher and psychotherapist, this is so useful. It fast-tracks what used to take me hours to source.
Thank you for this awesome feedback for us, Dr. Jacqueline! This was Mia's idea and it was so fun to partner to bring it to life together.
I love learning from psychotherapists and researchers. Would be so curious to learn how the system works for you and whether or not you would share with your clients!! <3
A delicate dance indeed in the neurodiversity x ai landscape.
@Jen Benford, there are many systems out there dedicated to psychotherapists⦠that you can use to transcribe and organize sessions⦠it saves a great deal of time, and it is sort of like a qualitative data analysis tool. It categorizes and organizes, but is synonymous with qualitative data analysis and is based on the breadth and scope of my experience⦠the reflective summary that I provide to those I work with is not AI-generated.
Sorry , I think my note was confusing with how I wrote it. What I actually meant was neurodivergent people (like me) have a tricky landscape to navigate with ai and how we use it, especially because it can be addictive. So I wondered if you would share the system (the lagoon, cove, etc) with them if you found it useful. π
π I have had to walk back my usage a lot. Super interesting too people are using it as a substitute for therapy who maybe do not have access to info or healthcare..π Glad the algorithm connected us!!
Hi Dr Jacqueline, thank you so much for your feedback! I love to hear this and I'm so happy the Coastline works in your favor. I hope you're having a FANTASTIC day π
Mia, Jen, I loved this. So much AI advice assumes the human should adapt to the tool. Work faster. Prompt better. Be more consistent. I love the reversal of that. That the technology should meet people where they are instead.
As someone with ADHD, the different workspaces made so much sense to me. The Dive for when youβre in flow and one unnecessary question can break the whole spell. The Cove for wandering around an idea before it has to become anything. The Harbor for when everything feels urgent and you just need one clear next step.
That feels so much closer to how people actually work than pretending weβre the same person at all hours of the day. I certainly am not haha.
Such a thoughtful collaboration. Thank you for sharing it. One of the most useful pieces Iβve read in a while :)
This is a brilliant concept. Almost overwhelming to read at once but maybe my nervous system isnβt aligned right now.π€ͺ I love how you categorized each state we approach AI in so clearly. I recognize them all.
Such an amazing piece here, Mia and Jen! Reading through it felt like a boat ride to different corners of coastlines (I know you literally named the agents that!). Feels like I have been in The Cove and the Lagoon simultaneously lately! π
Thank you for your kind words, Raghav!! :) That combination makes so much sense together. I am currently in the Lagoon..I think by the end of the βwork weekβ I can often end up there depending on commitments and capacity.
I love that so many people are now writing about calibrating AI for who we are and how we like to work, not just what the work is. Learning to value who we are and honour it in our work is huge. I've learned to just roll with the day and the different states I move through - it can be kinda fun to tap into each one and do the work best suited for that - it's part of why I play with images/animation and create something every day.
I think the approach here would literally break my brain but I do have a related skill where AI knows some of my key patterns and I can activate it in those moments where the air is a little thicker to move through.
Love the mermaid image!! (Is it the mirror or pearls or the roman column??)
We are not taught to do this and then shoved into a system that likes to mold us how it wants to, so I find this work to be at the center of everything I do for my business. I have seen your moving images, they are fabulous. We all deserve time in the Cove.
Roll with the day, yes! I feel like this work is SUPER important Dallas! β€οΈ And I love your images, they're an amazing portrayal of going with the flow π₯°
I love the collaboration here. Jen thank you so much for the insights into our nervous systems, you put into words a lot that I was feeling when using AI and didn't realize why. And Mia you are so brilliant to find a way to mesh the worlds of AI with our nervous systems and make it make total sense.
Take a bow, ladies! I hope we see more collaborations between you two!
She is a true wiz coming up with this idea! It is literally incredible and so fun to partner on. Thank you for the kind words, Mack. I would be honored to collab with Mia again. <33
I love reading about the neuroscience behind our behaviors. I was never introduced to that before Substack and it works for my stack as well. Why are we procrastinating? Why are we afraid of change? Etc. So I've just started two day ago by creating a project on Claude. It's called "Substack "Reinvent Yourself." I like what I'm reading here, but here's what I need from you: Names that resonate with ME. Like Brainstorming, Pushback, etc. Can you help with those? I'd never remember what harbor meant, for example. Then I need to ask. While I'm developing a new article, I do need brainstorming on topics and titles. I need research. I need answers to questions like: What works and why? What doesn't and why? Is this restackable--why or why not? Places I need to expand or delete and why? At 82, single, and semi-retired, Substack really is my only work. Is it possible to help me incorporate your wonderful suggestions into my Substack life? Thanks, Blueπ
Blue, welcome to this corner of Substack and I'm so proud of you for diving into Claude projects! β€οΈ
And YES, rename everything. The names should mean something to YOU, that's the whole point. If "harbor" doesn't stick, call it whatever does. "The Sorting Hat." "The Calm Desk." Whatever makes you open it on the right day.
I'd love to help you figure out your names honestly, come find me anytime π
Thought you might be interested in what Claude had to say about your article and what might work for me. Iβll try and DM you with his response. Blueπ
Okay this was just so much fun. π§ββοΈ Mia, thank you for letting me swim into your corner of the internet - I was hanging out in The Cove nearly the whole time, wandering through ideas with someone who actually follows the tangents instead of shutting them down. You designed five AI workspaces so clear and intuitive, and I hope this helps so many people who are wired differently and need a little extra care. So grateful for you. Same coast always. π¦βπ₯π©·

Thank you Anna! :) it is indeed, a journey β€οΈ
Oh this is so beautiful!
β€οΈπ₯°β€οΈ
Your posts make me want to get back on cowork after a long day (and literal fires todayβs case).
Awwwwwwww β€οΈ
@Jen Benford ask @AI Meets Girlboss about the fire part lol Iβve got to get her interview rescheduled I was so bummed!

There's something really unnerving about staring at a chat window, knowing something serious is happening on the other side, and being completely unable to do anything about it. Glad youβre okay Phil. π©·π¦©
I did not realize this was about a literal fire!! Oh my gosh. Glad everyone is okay. <3
WHAT? THIS WAS LITERAL FIRES? π«ͺ
I hope everything's fine!!!! β€οΈ
realized i never came back to this one. yeah - a lighting strip caught fire in a ceiling recess. a bit of a mess but no one was hurt and no major damage.
looking forward to the reschedule for sure. thanks for your grace with the whole thing

I will have to think about thatβ¦it has not been a topic of discussion. The topic of screen addiction has definitely been discussed.
π I have had to walk back my usage a lot. Super interesting too people are using it as a substitute for therapy who maybe do not have access to info or healthcare..π Glad the algorithm connected us!!
I know. I have a student who just wrote a paper on this and suicide. It is concerningβ¦.probably the topic for an upcoming post.

Thank you Lorrie, this post will wait for when youβre ready haha! We know itβs huge (we had to cut a lot of stuff, even).
Thanks for stopping by β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Now you can put the Coastline to work π
I am here for the cove all day and every day.
I started reading this and thinking βis 5 really necessary?β
Answer: yes! π
YES, VERY NECESSARY β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
yessss for the cove!!! <33

I absolutely love this β it gave me some ideas for building my own spaces, too! Love the uniquely creative collab idea ππΌππΌ
Thank you Jason, I'm so luck to have met Jen β€οΈ she's now my Cove sister.
Also, I love hearing "building my own" and people adapting these systems for their own use cases, YES!!! π₯³
hey cove sister <3
Hiiii β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
TYβ¨ The idea was totally the brain child of Mia! And so fun to work on. Yay for ideas for customizing your space too!! π
