I was thinking as I was reading your article that this is a natural progression for any creative evolution that you start in one place and end up in a completely different one as your idea evolves.
What makes it artificial when working with AI is that every layer added pulls the idea in a specific, exaggerated direction whereas if you're working on it yourself you might consider costs or risks at some point But these lenses would be more smoothly baked into your process.
In the past we experimented with the rubrics that neeed to be fulfilled whenever a model provided an answer but listing all the criteria that needed to be met was also costly and the model would get lost if it became too long.
Exactly! Although I look at some of the new residential buildings being built on autopilot, with no regard for beautiful design, and think humans are perfectly capable of defaulting to “artificial” too 😂 AI or not hehe
And yep, the more you try to encode every consideration, the easier it is for the model to lose the plot. Not sure the 1 million context window helps either. Thank you so much for reading!! ❤️
Each image got more beige! I loved the teal accent in the first image so much and it got stripped out more each time towards what is so very ordinary... and beige. Such a fascinating visual experiment, Mia! Love how you showed what AI can do to the work in a very fun way.

I'm finding with using AI for visual design work more that there is a very clear beige centre, it's perfectly fine, nothing wrong with it, it just slides into ordinary and like most everything else? It's fascinating to compare/contrast what AI does with visuals vs what it does with writing/thought.
I love that you chose architecture/building instead of writing because the loss is visible. With words, we often don’t notice when the weird little doorway into an idea has been removed.
I had to! I’m a big fan of architecture and the history behind it. So, I thought doing this experiment through writing would be kind of boring. And definitely much harder to notice!
I experienced a lot of of this working on my big research paper. used Fresh chat to proofread what the last chat wrote, and it didn't like its own writing.! yesterday I uploaded poetry and it tried to flatten it out because my poetry was too emotionally raw. The exact same beige-ing of a building, exactly like your experiment produced.
